About MyRepublic Talk App
1. What is the MyRepublic Talk App?
- A free app for MyRepublic NZ users that have a landline service with MyRepublic.
- The app allows you to have your landline available on your mobile, this means you can dial or receive calls from anyone as if you were using your landline at home.
- Standard landline rates apply
2. How does the app work?
Using the MyRepublic Talk App works just like it would if you used your standard landline in your home. Except now you can carry your landline in your pocket, at home, on the go, or anywhere around the world.
When dialing a number, it will dial through like a normal landline would. The receiver would recieve the call just like normal.
When receiving a phone call, your mobile will ring similar to receiving a mobile call, you will just receive it through the MyRepublic Talk App.
3. Using the MyRepublic Talk App
- Download the app via App Store (IOS) or Google PlayStore (Android)
- Enter your MyRepublic landline number without the zero. Example: 09888123, enter 9888123
- Provide the app permission to the requested features, these are required to allow the app to make phone calls.
- Once this is done, you are ready to use the app!
To Make a Call
- Tap on the dialpad and enter in any number you would like to dial, press the dial button
- The app will dial the requested number, treat it like any normal phone call on your mobile.
- The end recepient will receive a call from your landline number.
- Please note you will be charged the standard landline rates for this call as if you were at home.
To Answer a Call
- When someone dials your landline number, the your screen will turn on and display who's calling, just like a regular call.
- Select your preferred option to answer the call.
Things to note:
- Users can make a call through the app to any number in the world (supported countries/numbers) at the same rates that apply normally.
- The app must be connected to internet (WiFi / mobile network) to function – relevant data charges still apply.
- The recipient does not need the app or to be connected to internet to receive the call. They will receive a call from the same number that is registered in the app.
4. How will I be charged for the usages?
Standard landline rates apply to your MyRepublic account. For more info on these charges, click here.
Other than using your landline on your phone, you can also do the following:
Record your call
While on a call, you can use the "record" button to start recording the call. An audible beep will sound on both ends of the call to let you know it's started recording. You can view your recordings by visiting the recent button, then the i icon, tap the white play icon.
Setup Mobile Forwarding
You can turn the MyRepublic talk app into your default phone app. Any call coming to your mobile will display through the MyRepublic talk app. This is useful when travelling internationally, as someone calling your mobile will forward to your landline through the MyRepublic Talk App.
On the profile button, tap "Turn On" under "Mobile Forwarding"
MyRepublic Talk App Troubleshooting Guide
1. I’m unable to make/receive Talk App call. What should I do?
Please ensure that you have active internet connection.
(User must be connected to internet to make or receive an app call)
2. Other party can't hear me. (For Android users)
On Android phone setting, make sure that you have allowed access to the microphone (or audio recording)
Go to Setting -> Apps -> Permissions -> Microphone -> make sure microphone is turned on for MyRepublic Talk App.
*Note: Setting may differ from one android phone to another.
3. I have performed Mobile and GSM forwarding as instructed but I’m unable to receive app call from call made from non-app. What should I do?
- Please ensure that you are connected to internet (wifi or mobile data) AND the GSM network when enabling or disabling the Mobile and GSM forwarding
- You will also need to have internet connectivity to make and receive calls.
- Note that to enable/disable GSM forwarding. The app will need to make a call. If the call isn’t made. GSM forwarding will not be set. (Calling to enable and disable the forwarding is free - even whilst already overseas) - It is safer to enable this before travelling though.
- You should see the following prompt if forwarding is successfully set.
- You may also double confirm whether the Mobile and GSM forwarding are successfully enabled by checking the following display on your mobile phone.
4. I didn't receive any push notification for the following scenarios. What should i do?
1. Push notification to activate App
2. Push notification on missed call
For some android phones, there is a battery optimization feature that kills background apps completely if the Apps are not actively running.
The following are some steps to get back your notifications. (E.g. OPPO phone setting)
Go to settings -> advanced settings -> battery manager -> protected apps, then find the app you don't want to be killed, and "protect" it.
But that's not enough. Oppo's software will still kill the app unless you take two more steps.
Go to settings -> apps -> advanced -> ignore battery optimizations, then find the app and ignore it.
Go to settings -> notification panel & status bar -> notification center, then find the app, then activate "allow notifications" and also "priority display". You have to activate the priority part too to make sure you get notifications.
