What is a Static IP?
Most devices use dynamic IP addresses, which are assigned by the network when they connect. These IP addresses are temporary, and can change over time.
When a device is assigned a static IP address, it does not change. The device always has the same IP address. Our Static IP add-on gives you a fixed public IPv4 address.
Do I need it?
Static IP's are used whenever you need your internet address to not change. For most customers, a Dynmaic IP is perfect.
Static IPs can be used if you’re looking to do one of the below tasks:
- Host your own web servers
- Use devices like CCTV and NAS
- Get remote access to your workstation.
Any performance boost?
Generally, no. Static IPs don’t impact the speed of your online surfing, downloading or gaming.
How do we manage IP addresses
We have as many IP addresses as we could reasonably get, and had to use CG-NAT to share IP addresses in an industry standard manner, as unobtrusively as possible.
How do I sign up for Static IP?
You can select the add-on while signing up with MyRepublic.
If you’re already a customer, then call our customer services team at 0508 MYFIBRE (6934273). It takes up to 24 hours for the process to complete.
How do I configure Static IP?
There is no configuration needed. Just restart your router.
How many Static IPs can I have?
For residential customers, we can provide one Static IP per broadband connection.
For business broadband customers, the first static IP is free with any of the business plans. We can offer sets of 8 or 16 Static IPs.
Changed your Router? How to continue using your Static IP?
In case you change your router, the static IP will continue to work with the new router.
